HBA Charitable Foundation

The housing industry is experiencing a massive labor shortage (as are most industries right now). Older workers are retiring, and we have fewer and fewer skilled tradespersons to replace them. The HBA Charitable Foundation gives scholarships to students studying in the trades, to build up our industry. Part of our goal for the foundation is to expand the purpose and what it does, so that not only are we investing in students who have already made the decision to study trades, but so that we go out into the community and show younger students why studying the trades is a viable and lucrative career path. If you have questions about the Foundation or if you would like to learn more, please contact Rachel Hamm.

Scholarships

The HBA Charitable Foundation awards two types of scholarships each year. The HBA Family Scholarship is designed for the children and grandchildren of HBA members who intend to continue their education past the high school level. This is a one-time scholarship of $1000, to the North Carolina public school of their choice. Students must apply for the scholarship, and their sponsoring parent or grandparent must be an active member of the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County.  Contact Rachel with questions.

The other scholarship we offer is through Wake Tech. Every year, the Charitable Foundation gives WT $10,000 to distribute to students studying in homebuilding-related fields, such as engineering, HVAC, plumbing, and construction management. Students are selected by a committee at Wake Tech for these awards and receive $1000 at a time, but may reapply each year if they are still studying in an appropriate field.
